Technology continues to garner the spotlight in the talent development profession.  With the rise of high-tech learning, the desire for high-touch learning also grows.  People yearn for interaction with others.  They want to learn with and from each other.

The original social learning, live and in person, is alive and well, and demands the attention of talent development professionals to sustain it at a world-class level.

Building Facilitation Skills is the path to achieve truly engaging, interactive, social learning that yields business results.  New and seasoned professionals will benefit from continuing to grow their knowledge and skills in support of facilitating learning.  Ultimately, the organizations they support benefit, too.   

In this day-long workshop, participants will engage in a series of interactive learning conversations and activities in the a.m. that immerse them in the practices of world-class facilitation.  In the afternoon, participants will prepare and share a five-minute facilitated session on a topic of their choice, followed by receiving honest, candid, structured feedback from peers on their performance.

Participant Learning and Deliverables:  As a result of their engagement, participants will be able to:

• Define and embrace the concept of Otherliness as a key driver of effective learning facilitation.
• Connect the importance of wholly engaging learners with their heads, hearts and hands to specific facilitation techniques designed to optimize learning.
• Explore and apply The Learner Engagement Model that recommends a balance of “air time” between the learning leader and four other learning modalities.
• Use specific guidance offered on following the learning process and creating the learning environment to more deeply engage adult learners.
• Observe, discuss, practice and master techniques for beginning a live learning event, engaging learners in learning conversation, using open-ended questions, and encouraging and validating participation.
• Identify effective and less effective facilitation techniques through observation and sharing structured performance feedback with peers.
• Receive and apply feedback offered by peers to further shape their facilitation skill set.

Barry Altland is a writer, speaker, thought leader and expert on leading and engaging volunteers.  He blends fifteen years of strategic and tactical initiative leadership in talent strategy, organizational development and learning and performance and ten years of hospitality leadership experience.
