February Chapter Meeting Program

Speaker Profiles
Alexis Balkum, SPHR is vice president, learning and development for Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc.). In this capacity, Balkum is responsible for oversight of the development and execution of employee learning and development programs at all levels across the organization. Previously, Balkum was Executive Director, Employee Learning and Development responsible for learning and development programs targeted at mid-management and below. She has been part of the Time Warner family for twenty years, joining TBS, Inc. in 1999 following nine years with Time Warner Cable. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from North Carolina A&T University and her Masters in Business Administration from the University of Georgia. Balkum serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Atlanta Chapter of American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and the Alumni Board for the Terry College of Business Alumni Association at the University of Georgia. Balkum is a certified Senior Human Resources Professional (SPHR).
Steve Waechter is senior director, HR finance and technology for Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc.). In this capacity, he oversees TBS, Inc.’s. human resources financial planning, global technology strategy and execution, as well as HRIS services.
In addition, his team is responsible for managing all aspects of Turner’s human resources global portal, snap; all system and human capital reporting efforts and records retention strategy. Waechter began his TBS, Inc. tenure in 1997 in Corporate Affairs, accountable for the development and project management of strategic public relations initiatives for the company as well as managing the financial operations of the division. He earned a bachelor of science degree with concentrations in finance and decision science from Miami University in Oxford, OH, and studied abroad at Regents College in London and the International School of Business in Moscow through Miami’s School of Business Administration International Program.

The CNN Center is located at the corner of Marietta St. and Centennial Olympic Park Drive in downtown Atlanta:

The main event is located on the 10th floor of the South Tower. Turn Right from the 10th floor elevator lobby and follow the signs to the event.

Security and Check-in Process
Attendees should check in at the CNN concierge desk located at the Centennial Olympic Park Drive entrance, next to the big CNN letters. Attendees must present valid Picture ID to the concierge and mention that they are registered for the ASTD event being held in Turner’s Professional Development Center and they will be given a visitors’ badge to gain entrance into the facility. A Program Volunteer Ambassador will greet you and escort you to the elevator and ASTD check-in area. Registration will close Monday, February 21. You must be pre-registered to attend this meeting. No walk-up registrants will be allowed due to Turner's security.
