Facilitator: Dr. Cheryl Harris Curtis

Dr. Cheryl Harris Curtis is an accomplished professional with a B.A. in Psychology from East Carolina University, an MAE in Educational Leadership, Administration, and Research from Western Kentucky University, and a Doctor of Education in Developmental Education from Grambling State University. Dr. Curtis serves as the Director of Veterans and Military Affairs and an adjunct professor at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Dr. Curtis's expertise lies in adult learning theory, where she assists faculty, staff, and students in obtaining resources to help students at all levels excel. Her research and needs assessments inform higher education and institutional policy-making, resulting in successful grant awards from prestigious organizations. Notably, she received the 2023 Johnson C. Smith University GRANTSPERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD for her outstanding grant writing efforts.

Beyond her university roles, Dr. Curtis is actively involved in various endeavors, including serving on the SAMSHA—HEAL Advisory Board, the editorial board for the Journal for Developmental Education, and as the program evaluator for the American Heart Association’s Healthy Charlotte Initiative. She is also contributing to an independent research project aimed at facilitating the successful treatment of Veterans with PTSD.
